Most Civic Theatre performances are part of performance series presented by Broadway/San Diego, San Diego Opera, La Jolla Music Society, or California Ballet. These organizations offer season ticket subscriptions and group purchase opportunities in advance of general public sales.

Broadway/San Diego is part of the Nederlander Organization. Beginning in 1976 and operating as San Diego Playgoers, they have been presenting local audiences with the best from Broadway and around the world. From the London-imported spectaculars to the Tony-award winning Broadway classics, San Diegans have experienced the best New York and London has to offer through the efforts of Broadway/San Diego. Perhaps best known locally for their engagements of musicals and plays, Broadway/San Diego has brought the best of the classic Russian ballet companies to San Diego as well as the most popular of comedians and popular concert artists. Broadway/San Diego's present shows at the Civic Theatre throughout the year.

San Diego Opera, ranked by OPERA AMERICA as one of the top ten opera companies in the United States, is a widely respected member of the international opera community and is an invaluable cultural resource to the San Diego community. The Company is both a national and regional model for all arts organizations in terms of artistic product, impact of community education and outreach and consistently sure-footed fiscal management. San Diego Opera was founded in 1950, and became a producing company during the Civic Theatre's inaugural year in 1965 with its first staging of La boheme. San Diego Opera's acclaimed productions regularly bring internationally renowned artists to perform in the Civic Theatre. The San Diego Opera annual season of five productions begins in January and concludes in May.

From its inception in 1968, California Ballet Company has been a fertile ground for the re-staging of the classics and for the creation of its own works. Their professional company of choreographers, directors, and dancers have influenced, nurtured, and enriched the lives of generations of San Diegans and visiting students through their performances and their California Ballet School. Since the early '70s, the California Ballet production of The Nutcracker has been a Civic Theatre tradition. Additionally, California Ballet annually stages another classic, such as Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, at the Civic Theatre.

The La Jolla Music Society is heir to a distinguished tradition reaching back to the Musical Arts Society of La Jolla, founded in 1941. Their mission is to present the finest classical music and musicians in the world. La Jolla Music Society has evolved as a major presenter of classical music. Over the years, they have brought to the Civic Theatre world-renowned orchestras, recitalists, soloists, and, in recent years, international dance companies.
